If you’re looking to put a spin on fried fish tacos, tortilla chip crusted tilapia fish tacos is exactly what you need in your life.
It makes for a quicker and cleaner way to “bread” your fish, yet is still crispy and delicious!!!
This is super simple to make. Just run your egg through a quick egg wash, roll in crushed tortilla chips.
Shake and bake. Or air-fry. Up to you!
I also put together a simple red slaw that is full of flavor and simple to make. it adds crunch and some acidity and a little heat to these tilapia fish taco that is amazing!
Tortilla chip crusted tilapia is good even on its own. turning this into a fish taco bowl would be a great idea too!

Tortilla Chip Crusted Tilapia Fish Tacos
Ingredients
- 4 filets tilapia
- 1 bag tortilla chips salted
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 12 corn tortillas
FOR THE JALAPENO LIME CABBAGE SLAW
- 1 small red cabbage
- 2 lime
- 1 jalapeno
- 1 clove garlic
Instructions
- Preheat oven or air fryer to 400 F. In a shallow bowl or plate, add two scrambled eggs. in a 13×9 baking dish, smash up chips and stir in cumin and paprika
- Dip tilapia, in egg wash, then in tortilla chip breading. Liberally coat both sides of your tilapia with the tortilla chips. Place on a cooling rack over a baking sheet. Or in your air frying basket…contraption.. thingy..
- Cook for 10 minutes.
FOR THE JALAPENO LIME RED CABBAGE SLAW
- Slice up your cabbage into thin pieces. Mince garlic and jalapeno. Add it all in a bowl and squeeze in juice from lime. Place in fridge until the fish is ready.
- Chop up fish into bite sized pieces. Add on a warmed tortilla and top with slaw. Enjoy!
